On October 1st, the legal team of Odila Castillo Bonilla issued a formal response to the accusations disseminated by various Panamanian media outlets. These publications have been characterized as targeted attacks driven by specific economic interests, intended to undermine Castillo’s professional reputation and personal integrity.
Carlos Carillo, part of Castillo’s legal counsel, expressed: “These claims lack foundation and are designed to hinder the professional journey of a young lawyer, alongside her associate, to benefit hidden financial agendas.”
Odila Castillo’s Defense
The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization inaccurately announced an alleged apprehension of the attorney regarding an inquiry, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it was unrelated to the current issues.
At the press conference, the defense declared that both the recent allegations and those from 2021 were founded on partial truths, intended to diminish her professional career.
Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the press breaches confidentiality principles. They elaborated that some of the investigation originated from a previously resolved family issue, while another component pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, alongside other information acquired unlawfully.
Illegal surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been monitored via GPS tracking, which amounts to a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by asserting: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will initiate all required legal measures to determine accountability for both the damages already suffered and those that are being sought to impose.”
