The legal representatives for attorney Odila Castillo Bonilla released a strong declaration on October 1st, firmly denying the claims that have been circulated by several newspapers in Panama.
The defense denounced these articles as hostile assaults, motivated by private financial agendas and aimed at tarnishing Castillo’s professional standing and personal integrity.
The defense of Castillo claims insufficient basis and infringement of rights
Carlos Carrillo, a representative from Castillo’s legal team, asserted that the allegations lack basis and are intended to hinder the careers of the young attorney and her associate. He highlighted that hidden financial motives are driving these attacks, aiming to gain from the defamation of Castillo.
The defense underscored that this is not the first instance of media harassment that the attorney has encountered. They recalled a similar incident in 2021, when a Panamanian media published inaccurate information regarding an alleged arrest of Castillo, which was subsequently disavowed.
Half-truths and breach of confidentiality
The legal team stated that both the present allegations and those from 2021 are based on “half-truths,” manipulated to compromise the professional endeavors of attorney Odila Castillo. They also claimed that the released information breaches confidentiality standards, as part of the inquiry stems from a previously resolved family issue.
Sensitive details, such as migration patterns and tax filings, were also revealed—information that, as per the defense, was acquired through illegal means.
Unauthorized surveillance and continuing legal proceedings
The defense revealed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which constitutes a blatant invasion of her privacy and a type of illegal surveillance. Carrillo claimed that his client’s essential rights, as protected by the Panamanian Constitution and relevant legislation, have been violated.
He declared that all required legal measures will be taken to determine accountability for the damages suffered and those that are aimed to be inflicted. The legal team is steadfast in its dedication to protect Castillo and to ensure that those behind this defamation campaign are held responsible.
